AFI Dallas International Film Festival & Reflection Fine Art join WRR and Dallas Wind Symphony to present Picnic in the Park
The best place to be Sunday, Sept. 2 is the Dallas Arboretum as WRR Classical 101.1 FM presents its 13th annual Picnic in the Park featuring America’s Greatest Band – The Dallas Wind Symphony.
A new feature to this year’s event is the addition of AFI Dallas International Film Festival. AFI Dallas will present of a family-friendly movie following the concert.
The free Dallas Wind Symphony concert begins at 7 p.m. and will include such classic patriotic pieces as The Star Spangled Banner, Stars and Stripes Forever and Armed Forces Salute. The wind symphony also will delight with some foot-stomping treats including tributes to Henry Mancini and the rock band Chicago as well as a salute to American jazz.
Following this invigorating concert, AFI Dallas International Film Festival will present “BABE,” a Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning 1995 Australian film based on Dick King-Smith’s beloved children’s novel. This delightful family movie tells the story of an intelligent swine whose sheep herding talents just might save him from the slaughterhouse. Featuring live-action comedy with state-of-the-art special effects and performances by animal actors, BABE is an inventive, heartwarming film.
Event goers also will have an opportunity to experience the mastery of Contemporary Artist JD Miller as his art takes shape with the creation of a live painting during the Dallas Wind Symphony concert. It’s a multi-sensory performance where art & music collide. Founder of Reflection Fine Art Gallery, Miller will be on-site creating a multi-dimensional work of art. This original painting will be auctioned off at a later date with proceeds benefiting the Dallas Wind Symphony. His 3-D oil painting on canvas has captured the hearts of art collectors across the nation.

It truly will be an exceptional evening of wonderful family entertainment.”
WRR’s Kurt Rongey, host of The Going Home Show, will emcee the evening and WRR’s evening announcer Kevin Sutton will sing the national anthem.
Picnic baskets, coolers and blankets are welcome. Concessions also will be available. WRR will be giving away two round trip Lufthansa Airlines tickets to Europe from its booth along with other promotional booths. Numerous sponsor booths will also be drawing for great prizes.

The Dallas Arboretum is at 8525 Garland Rd. (MAPSCOâ 37-U) on the shores of White Rock Lake, and features 66 acres of gardens and landscaped grounds including the historic DeGolyer Home. The grounds are wheelchair and stroller accessible and in-garden tram service is available.
